Taco night at Prairie Central High School led to a Hawk basketball win Friday evening.

The varsity boys defeated Unity in the home contest 60-34 in our featured broadcast game on Fairbury News. The Hawks were led in scoring by Trey Bazzell with 20 while Cooper Palmore and Kaden King each contributed 8 points. Other scoring came from Jake Bachtold with 7, Payton Dunahee and Logan Goad each with 6 and Rylie Vaughan with 5.

It was a much needed win for PC after some losses and a big game looming Saturday against Riverton in the IVC/Illini Prairie Shootout. Head Coach Darin Bazzell felt the game had questionable calls from the referees.

“Cooper asked him what he did and he gave him a technical on that,” Bazzell said afterward. “There’s just a lot of things going on out here – the ref won’t let me ask him questions so that kind of puts a damper on what was a pretty dang good defensive effort.”

The Prairie Central Music Boosters held their annual taco dinner fundraiser prior to the game with a steady crowd on hand. Thanks to members of the high school's FCCLA chapter who joined us at halftime to discuss various activities.

Jeff Curl and Darcy Rigsby provided the play-by-play action for Fairbury News.
