Opening night win for Hawks




Prairie Central players warm-up prior to Tuesday's game against Hoopeston at GCMS.

The Prairie Central boys basketball team opened play for the 2021-22 season with a victory Tuesday evening during the annual GCMS Thanksgiving Tournament.


In the game broadcast live on Fairbury News with Joel Swanson on the play-by-play, the Hawks defeated Hoopeston Area 63-31. Nine players were in the scoring book, led by junior Dylan Bazzell with 16, sophomore Levi Goad had 13, junior Camden Palmore contributed 9 and junior Drew Haberkorn had 7.


“PC was fueled by a solid team defensive effort and rebounding effort,” said PC head coach Darin Bazzell after the game.


Prairie Central is back on the court at GCMS Wednesday evening as they battle Lexington at 6:30 p.m. which Fairbury News will carry live with Eric Stock calling the action.


In other games at the GCMS Tournament on Tuesday, Lexington defeated Tri-Point 67-39 and GCMS beat Fisher 60-20.
