Monday softball, baseball recap

Prairie Central’s softball team had a big conference win over PBL Monday in a home matchup.

In the 17-1 win for the Hawks, freshman Faith Fields threw a solid game for three innings of work. She had 7 strikeouts, no walks and gave up one hit and no earned runs.

“Bats were strong as we collected 14 hits on the game,” said PC softball coach Molly Cagley.

Kate Slagel, Lucy Whitfill, Kyah Creek, Rylee Galloway, Sam Slagel and Jules Woodrey all had 2 hits each. Kate Slagel and Whitfill each had a double as Sam Slagel hit a solo homerun in the first to get it all started. Kyrsten Atkins and Woodrey had 3 RBIs each to lead the team.

The softball team is now 11-11 and 3-3 in the conference, for fourth place.

Meanwhile, the PC baseball team lost a close one to PBL Monday by a score of 6-5. There were a few too many mistakes, according to PC baseball coach Gaige Rinkenberger.

“We did enough to win the game but in the end, it didn’t go our way.”

Hartman pitched 5 innings giving up 5 (4 earned) and striking out 4. He also led the offense with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Curl added 2 RBIs and Brandon Holland pitched 3 innings giving up 1.
