Milestone reached in 3OT thriller

(Prairie Central's Tyler Curl launches a shot Tuesday night at U-High)

It was like the old Corn Belt Conference days in the U-High gymnasium Tuesday night with a great ball game that saw a nice crowd of Hawk fans.

Prairie Central pulled away from the U-High Pioneers in three overtimes to win 69-62 at Normal.

“Teams don’t usually expect us small town people to come in and give them much of a fight and that’s exactly what we did for seven quarters tonight,” said PC head coach Trevin McCulloh following the game.

McCulloh felt his team’s transition was much better.

It was a big night for PC’s Tyler Curl as he surpassed the 1,000-point club at PCHS by scoring 32 points in the game, which was broadcast live on Fairbury News with Marc Strauss on the call. Levi Goad had 18 points while Avery Elder contributed 8.

“We just had to dig deep,” Levi Goad said of the multiple overtimes. “I know everyone was tired and so were they. We just gave it everything we had.”

Goad feels this could be a turning point in the season as the Hawks have a tough schedule coming up and winning close games like this is big.
