It was a senior night to remember for the Prairie Central girls basketball team Thursday as they set the record for the most wins in a single season for Lady Hawk basketball.
PC defeated St. Thomas More by a score of 51-20 in Fairbury. Elly Haberkorn led the scoring with 10 followed by Mariya Sisco and Emily Wilkey who each had 8. Madison and Emma Kinkade each had 7 while Chloe Sisco had 5 and Becca Conlisk, Danielle Vogel and Katy Curl each had 2.
Ramshaw led the scorers for St. Thomas More with 10 while Bowie chipped in 4 and Devocelle, Delorenzo and Roessler each had 2.
Senior members of the team were honored during a pre-game ceremony with their parents and special presentations by fellow players.
PC head coach Darrelynn Dunn was all smiles after Thursday’s win, saying all of the team’s hard work and dedication has paid off. When he stepped into the position two years ago, he talked with the team about trusting the process and embracing the grind.
“Going 8-16 then 15-15, we had some long nights and some hard working days at practice and you can see right now it’s paying off to be 26-5,” Dunn told Fairbury News.
This year’s team is in good company as many other Hawk teams had success over the years.
“Hopefully, we can have the same post season success that we had in the regular season,” Dunn added.
The team’s goal is to stay healthy during the rest of the season as Natalie Graf was out with the flu Thursday evening.
“I feel if we go in healthy to the post season, we can play with anybody,” said Dunn.
The Hawks play the winner of Herscher and Clifton Central Wednesday night at Hoopeston starting at 6 p.m.
