Prairie Central senior Ayden Mackey has officially signed to wrestle at Siena Heights University next year in Adrian, Michigan.

“I decided I wanted to wrestle at the next level and they reached out to me,” Mackey told Fairbury News during a signing ceremony Wednesday at PCHS.

The coach told Mackey he really liked the way he wrestled. When Mackey went to visit the

school, everything seemed to click and it felt like home.

Mackey plans to study exercise science, possibly becoming a physical trainer or something in the sports or health field.

Looking back on his high school wrestling career, Mackey found satisfaction in improving.

“I was looking really good then got hurt right there at sectionals,” Mackey recalled. “It was really tough for me but you know, I kind of found a new love for getting back and becoming better.”

Mackey started wrestling during his sixth-grade year and didn’t like it at first.

“I was that typical kid that was lazy and just didn’t want it but I stuck with it and I found a love for it.”

Wrestling eventually became a sport that Mackey adored. Now he has a goal of becoming a better person – something he looks forward to.
