Hawks ready to battle Broncos

It’ll be a battle of the 6-4 Hawks and 7-3 Broncos as Montini visits Prairie Central Saturday for round two of the IHSA football playoffs.

Montini has a legendary football program with several state championships.

“To me, they are very similar in how they play to Central Catholic,” PC head coach Mike Goodwin told Fairbury News Thursday afternoon.

The Broncos played an extremely tough schedule, according to Goodwin, which means the Hawks need to be sound up front and able to control the big guys. Offensively, Goodwin said they do a little bit of everything and do it well.

“We are going to have to be ready to play from the get-go,” added Goodwin.

PC must run the football and try to have some nice sustainable drives and keep the ball out of their offense’s hands.

So far, the weather looks great in Fairbury for Saturday’s 2 p.m. kickoff from Lewis Field with partly sunny skies and highs close to 60.

“It’s going to be a fun afternoon I’m sure,” notes Goodwin.

Fairbury News will have the game broadcast live on Facebook with pre-game around 1:45 p.m. Our Jeff Curl and Mike Wolf call the action from the Lewis Field press box at Prairie Central High School. It is part of the Casson Media High School Sports Network, presented by Brandt Professional Agriculture and Bank of Pontiac.
