Hawks debut with hoop win

The Prairie Central boys basketball team had a successful start to the 2023-24 season as they defeated Armstrong-Potomac 85-47.


In the game broadcast live on Fairbury News, Tyler Curl was the leading rebounder with 9 points, Levi Goad led the assists with 7 and the Hawks had 25 team steals.


PC plays the middle game Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against the Hoopeston Area Cornjerkers and are back at it Friday afternoon at 4 against the Fisher Bunnies before the crossover games on Saturday.


Also at the GCMS Tournament Monday, Lexington defeated Iroquois West 59-24 and the host GCMS Falcons defeated Tri-Point 90-39.


PC girls win over Tri-Point


It was also a successful night for the PC girls basketball team as the Lady Hawks defeated Tri-Point 57-50.


Sawyer Ashman was leading scorer with 15, while leading rebounders were Kelly Wilkey and Abi Nimbler with 7 and Kyrsten Atkins and Jayla Hammond were tied with 2 steals each.


Elsewhere in area hoops


In the Dean Riley Shootin’ the Rock Thanksgiving Tournament at Ottawa, Pontiac defeated Marengo 94-25.
