Prairie Central found success on the road Friday night as the Hawk basketball team defeated St. Thomas More 48-41 in the conference opener.
In the game broadcast live on Fairbury News, Levi Goad had 16 points in his return after missing some time at the Williamsville Holiday Tournament due to an injury. Gage Steidinger had 13 points while Tyler Curl contributed 10.
“It was good to have (Levi) back out there,” PC head coach Trevin McCulloh said after the game.
After making some adjustments, McCulloh feels his team got better communicating. He reminded the team in the locker room that it is tough any time you go on the road in the Illini Prairie Conference.
“St. Thomas More is one heck of a coached team,” observed McCulloh. “They make you almost play their style.”
The Hawks are now 13-4 on the season and prepare for a big non-conference game on Tuesday at Morton. They were one of Prairie Central’s two regular season losses last year, defeating the Hawks at home.
Though Tuesday’s game will be challenging, McCulloh admits it will be nice to play a team like that in non-conference play which could help them down the road.
We will have Tuesday’s game live from Morton on Fairbury News with Marc Strauss on the call.
