Boys win on Senior Night

A large crowd in the Prairie Central High School gym Friday night enjoyed a senior night win for PC boys basketball as the Hawks defeated Paxton-Buckley-Loda 69-46.

PC is back in the win column after some losses. Tyler Curl had 26 points while Levi Goad had 14. Gage Steidinger had 8, Jack Schahrer and Avery Elder each had 6, Talen Steidinger had 4, Jaydyn Knox had 3 and Gavin Tredennick had 2.

Knox downed a shot early which was his basketball debut as he didn’t go out earlier in high school and had a wrist injury for much of this season.

“He came to me last summer and asked if he could jump on and help our team out,” said PC head coach Trevin McCulloh. “He’s a hard worker, great kid.”

The Hawks came out with great intensity on the defensive end in the second half and set the tone for the rest of the game.

McCulloh considered it a “heck of a night” for his seniors who he considers a great group of kids.

“To be able to have nine seniors on your roster is pretty special.”

PC boys basketball and cheer seniors include: Tyler Curl, Avery Elder, Levi Goad, Jaydyn Knox, Jack Schahrer, JC Spence, Gage Steidinger, Talen Steidinger, Gavin Tredennick, Calley Friedman, Anna-Lou Huart and Sophie Musser.

Prior to the game, the Prairie Central Music Department held an all-you-can-eat taco dinner fundraiser in the nearby cafeteria. The PCHS pep band entertained the crowd during Friday’s game. Senior recognition for basketball players and cheerleaders took place between the JV and varsity games.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Hawks as they play Williamsville Saturday afternoon in the Illini Prairie vs. Sangamo Shootout hosted by Monticello High School. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and we will have the broadcast on Fairbury News Facebook with pre-game around 3:20. Marc Strauss and Jaidin Rinkenberger will be there calling the action.

Coming off of a win against Beecher, the Prairie Central girls basketball team will have senior night on Monday in Fairbury prior to the 7 p.m. varsity contest. We will also have that broadcast on Fairbury News.
