Garden season coming

Cascade Gardens is shown west of Fairbury along Route 24.

For the next few weeks, we’ll be cooped-up inside however, there are brighter days ahead!

With warmer weather approaching, you can go out for a walk and search for houses with hearts pasted to the windows – a sign of hope for things to come. You can also watch for other signs of warming weather: returning birds, budding flowers, and new leaves on the trees.

The perfect way to ring in spring, while still adhering to our health guidelines, is to start planning your flower and vegetable gardens. Whether you’re looking to start a new garden or expand an existing one, Cascade Gardens is the perfect place to start, offering a variety of flora, including perennials, annuals, tropical plants, vegetables, herbs, trees, and shrubs.

The garden center is only open seasonally, but the Gehring family also offers chicken meat and eggs all year long, so make sure to check out their farm-fresh products.

Cascade Gardens is located a half-mile west of Fairbury on the north side of Route 24. With recent conditions, many businesses have different hours and newly-enforced regulations, so please check Facebook or call before visiting. If you are high-risk or have specific health concerns, please contact the Gehrings at (815) 692-4897 to make special arrangements. They’ll be happy to help!

Do you have a story, idea, or suggestion to share with us? If so, please send in your thoughts by calling us at (815) 692-4500 or by emailing fairbury@fairburyILattractions.com. You can also speak with a Specialty Shops representative in person by visiting Bobbi McKeon at Heart’s Desire on Route 24 in Fairbury.
