A two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon just south of Fairbury claimed the life of a Gibson City woman.
Livingston County Coroner Michael E. Renner reports Mark Gal, 19, of Ohio, Illinois was driving a Buick Envision east on 600 North Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at 2200 East Road. A Chevy Equinox, driven by James Enghausen, 67, of Gibson City was traveling north on 2200 East and was struck by the Buick Envision at the intersection. Both vehicles left the road while Enghausen’s vehicle struck a utility pole.
The passenger in Enghausen’s vehicle, Jerrie L. Enghausen, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy determined she died from blunt force injuries sustained in the accident. James Enghausen was flown to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria where he remained in stable condition, according to Renner.
Both Gal and a child passenger in his vehicle were treated at St. James Medical Center in Pontiac and released.
Gal was cited for disobeying a stop sign by Sheriff’s Police.
Responding agencies included Livingston County Sheriff’s Police, Livingston County Coroner, Fairbury Fire, SELCAS, Fairbury Police and the State Police accident reconstruction unit.
