Winter sports at Prairie Central High School were highlighted during Tuesday's meeting of the Fairbury Rotary Club.

Darin Bazzell, Gabby Zeedyk, Austin Wenger and Superintendent Paula Crane were all on hand to address the group.

Bazzell gave an update on the Prairie Central boys basketball program, which is having a very successful season ranked second in the Class 2A poll. Only a couple of conference games are left in the season with regionals starting around mid-February hosted at Fairbury. Two starters who are out with injuries should be back by the end of the season.

Zeedyk's girls basketball team just won the conference after a big win over Central Catholic Monday. They are also having a successful season at 18-7 overall. Of those seven losses, four were to quality 3A schools. Zeedyk has five seniors on the team this year and acknowledges numbers are low. They have no freshman team, just junior varsity and varsity. According to the coach, they are not a tall team but they are quick. Girls regionals are the week before the boys, also at Fairbury.

Athletic Director Austin Wenger gave a PC wrestling update, on behalf of Coach Scott Ziller. The regular season has finished at regionals are Saturday. Wrestling numbers are low this year but PC's individual record is solid with wrestlers making good improvements.
