Survey results announced

Results have been announced from the recent Fairbury Improvement Group Survey.

There were 361 total responses. Several high school students responded and make up a large percentage of the under 18 group. Residents were happy with the way the city maintains sidewalks but about 30 percent were not pleased with residential sidewalks.

Respondents would like to see an Italian or chicken restaurant come to Fairbury and 60 percent said a similar Marsh Park event should be held like last year’s park grand re-opening celebration. The Flavors from the Farm food festival seems to be more popular, according to the survey with 90 percent saying the event should continue annually.

The survey indicated split results when it comes to Fairbury adding a disc golf course at North Park and 65 percent of the people said the city now has enough events for citizens over the age of 21, or adults. This includes street dances and outdoor music concerts. Only 15 percent were interested in joining a group to volunteer their time, such as Rotary, Odd Fellows, American Legion, VFW and Garden Club.

Dale Maley reports they received 150 miscellaneous comments or suggestions from the new survey and he was able to break them into 22 different categories.

“The good news is the category with the most comments was praise for the efforts of the Fairbury Improvement Group,” Maley said.

Here are some of the comments:

-Really loved last year’s work of the painted signs and updated Marsh Park.

-Would like to see more projects bring people to Main Street. I am happy with what has been done so far.

-I love seeing the big events for the whole town. I love seeing everyone together all happy, communicating and being together. A great way to bring the towns together!
