Sunken Park lunch a hit

Individuals wait in line for lunch during the "Lunch in the Park" event at Sunken Park Thursday.

The very first Fairbury Lunch in the Park to benefit the United Way of Livingston County was fantastic, according to the organization’s executive director.

“It went really, really well today,” said Deb Howard of Thursday’s lunch at Sunken Park in downtown Fairbury.

Part of the money raised for the lunch, featuring food from the Meat Shoppe and Catton’s Creamery, is used to support non-profit organizations in the county through United Way and the Fairbury Community Fund. The menu included cheese burgers, pork burgers, fries, cheddar balls, drinks and various ice cream flavors.

United Way supported 881 individuals in Fairbury alone during 2019. The organization helps those who are employed but income constrained. United Way of Livingston County and the Fairbury Community Fund have joined forces to benefit those in the community.

Another Lunch in the Park is planned for July in Marsh Park featuring food from Dave’s Supermarket. Be looking for more information as the event gets closer.
