Obituary: Zimmerman




Randall “Randy” James Zimmerman, 74, Fairbury, died at 6:45 am Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac.


Per Randy’s request a private service will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with Pastor Paul Wier officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. The family suggests memorials be given to SELCAS.


Randy was born February 9, 1948 in Fairbury the son of Melvin and Ardella M. Streitmatter Zimmerman. He married Mary E. Smith on October 1, 1972 in Cropsey. She survives in Fairbury.


Other survivors include three daughters, Kim (Mark) Haab, Fairbury, Kelli (Ryan) Coleman, Channahon, Kara (Logan) Spenard, Forrest and eight grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.


Randy was a 1966 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War (1968-1970).


Randy worked as a mason in the family business his entire life, beginning at the age of 16. In 1985 Randy became co-owner of Zimmerman Construction and continued to work in the business until his retirement in 2010.


Randy’s hobbies included playing the bass guitar in several bands including, Shiloh, Southern Gold, The Ghost Riders and Thurmo Nuclear and the Fallouts. He also enjoyed watching dirt track racing and all types of sports. He was a member of Knoll Lodge.

The family would like to thank Evenglow Lodge for their excellent care during Randy’s illness.
