Obituary: Somers

Michael Joseph Somers, 46 of Forrest, IL passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2020 after an incredible 14-year battle as a quadriplegic.

Michael was born March 26th 1973 to James and Beverly (King) Somers in Fairbury, IL. They both survive.

Michael started working at Central Soya in Gibson City and for the FTroop farm in Piper City. He married Tracy (Palmore) in 1993 and they had three beautiful daughters. Kaylan (Jordan) Marti of El Paso, IL, Courtney Somers of North Charleston, SC, and Casanndra Somers of North Charleston, SC. They all survive. They were the drive and pure love that pushed him everyday to stay on this Earth after an accident in 2006 left him a quadriplegic.

Michael has a sister, Pam (Randy) Hoogstraat of Piper City, IL, a brother, Todd Somers of Forrest, IL. Michael also has several nieces and nephews who he loved so very much. The light of his life this past year was his first grandson, Everett, who gave him more joy than anyone could imagine.

Michael's love of family kept him wanting more time in life. He loved watching his girls play basketball, it gave him such joy to know that he taught them to play and love of the game. He loved being a girl dad! He coached many teams for them all. After his accident what he missed most was working on the farm with the Froelich's in Piper City. He loved the smell of the fresh turned soil as he worked with those guys.

Michael also loved golf, The White Sox, The 49ers and basketball in the driveway. We know he is at peace and loving his legs now.

Michael’s services will be private due to the ongoing pandemic with burial in Forrest Twp. Cemetery, Forrest. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is assisting with arrangements.
