Obituary: Perkins





Ronald C. Perkins, 79, of Piper City passed away at 4:14 p.m., May 9, 2024 at his residence.


His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Fairbury. Pastor Daryl Evans will be officiating. Burial will be in Chatsworth Cemetery.


Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 9-9:45 a.m. Thursday at the church.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chatsworth American Legion.


Ronald was born October 15, 1944 in Fairbury the son of Roy Arthur and Darlene (Zander) Perkins.


He married Alicia Reynoso on June 2, 1966. She died April 4, 2003. He then married Ana Arias; she survives.


Also surviving are his children Suzanne (Mark) Slagel of Strawn, John (fiancé Venece) Perkins of Buckley, and Michael Perkins of Paxton; grandchildren Megan, Kari, Evan, and Andrew Slagel, Jacob, Tayler, Jordan, and Jacey Parrish, and Ava Perkins; siblings Bobby (Polly) Perkins of Davis, Rick (Terri) Perkins of Chatsworth, and Randy (Judy) Perkins of Salem; one sister in-law Paulette Youck of Onarga.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Donald Perkins.


Ronald was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a combat medic. He was proud of the work he did with the Peace Corps from 1964-1966. He graduated with a degree in education from the University of Illinois. He then taught agriculture for several years. He last worked for the United States Postal Service distribution center in Champaign.


Ronald loved to hunt, read and learn new things. He always kept family gatherings interesting with his entertaining stories and latest tidbits. He was loved and will be missed.
