Obituary: McCue





Donna Jean McCue, 91, of Fairbury, passed away at 7:45pm, Friday, September 13, 2024, at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.


Visitation will be held from 9-9:45am, Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am following the visitation at St. Andrews Catholic Church Fairbury. Fr. Scott Archer will be officiating. Burial will take place at 3pm in Calvary Cemetery, Sterling, IL.


Donna was born July 6, 1933, in Milledgeville, IL, the daughter of Clarence A. and Evelyn E. (Miller) Howe.  She married George Edward McCue on February 2, 1957 in Sterling. Her husband, George, preceded her in death on January 5, 2024.  Her parents, one brother, and one sister also preceded her in death.


Survivors include her children, Mark (Jill) McCue of Bartlett; Patrick (Loretta) McCue of Goodfield; Kelli McCue of Fox Lake; Laura (William Newport) McCue-Newport of East Peoria; Michael (Julie) McCue of Conifer, CO; and Christopher McCue of Pontiac; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Jane Ludwig of Freeport. 


Mrs. McCue was a 1951 graduate of Sterling High School. She had a love for antiques and owned and operated “Bear-Le-Olde Antiques” for over 25 years.  Donna was a committed member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairbury and served on the Altar & Rosary Society and served the church in any way she could. She was a member of the Fairbury Woman’s Club, Fairbury Echoes Museum, and Historical Society.  She also enjoyed playing cards with friends in clubs and family.


Donna was very creative and artistic; she would often help her husband, George, with bulletin boards, chaperone children’s events and serve as a room-mother when needed.  She had a positive impact on every life she touched, including her children.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light in her life as she grew older. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. 


The family requests that memorials be directed to Fairbury Echoes Museum, 126 West Locust, Fairbury, IL, 61739.
