Obituary: McCue





George Edward McCue, 91, of Fairbury, passed away at 7:55am, January 5, 2024, at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.


A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at St. Andrews Catholic Church Fairbury. Fr. Scott Archer will be officiating.


Visitation will be held from 9-9:45am, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury.


A private burial will take place later at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sterling.


Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or the donor’s choice of charity.

George was born August 28,1932, in Sterling the son of George Albert and Mary Caroline (Wolfe) McCue. He married Donna Jean Howe on February 2, 1957. She survives.


Also surviving are his children, Mark (Jill) McCue of Bartlett, Patrick (Loretta) McCue of Goodfield, Kelli McCue of Fox Lake, Laura (William Newport) McCue-Newport of East Peoria, Michael (Julie) McCue of Conifer, CO, and Christopher McCue of Pontiac; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Joseph McCue of Mantua, NJ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.


Serving in Germany, George was a veteran of the United States Army of Occupation. 

He received his master in Education Administration. He was a 6th grade teacher for 38 years, and retired in 1997 from Prairie Central School District.


George was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, Fairbury, and the Knights of Columbus.


George cherished and quietly loved his family. He was a steady hand that supported his immediate family and extended family. He offered everything to others, leaving not much for himself.
