Dorothy Darlene Ingersoll, 83, of Fairbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at her home with her family by her side. Cremation rites and arrangements are being handled by Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, at Graceland Cemetery with pastor JD Buchenau officiating.
Memorial contributions in Darlene’s name can be made to the donor’s choice.
Darlene was born on February 25, 1941 in Bloomington, the daughter of Richard and Dorothy (Grosse) Underwood. She married Marshall Burgess and they would have three children. Marshall preceded Darlene in death in 1978. She would later marry Merle Ingersoll in 1987 – he also precedes her in death.
Darlene is survived by her two children: Elvis Burgess, of Fairbury, and Dianna (Rick) Kester, of Fairbury. She is also survived by: her two grandchildren, Curtis (Amanda) Kester, and Kristin (Joe) Dietz; three great-grandchildren: Brynner Dietz, Adalynn Dietz, and Josie Kester. Also surviving is her sister, Shirley Underwood, and half-siblings, Carol Smith and Larry Grove.
Darlene is preceded in death by both parents, two husbands, her son Carter Burgess, and half-brother David Grove.
Darlene attended Lexington High School and worked at Benjamin Franklin for many years. She then went on to work at Fairview Haven in Fairbury for 25 years. Darlene loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, vacationing, and attending car shows.
Her impact on her family and friends can be summarized in the following words:
I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought, and decision we make. Their love leaves and indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared the love.
