Daren Ray Greenwell, 63, Fairbury, passed away suddenly at 4:10 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2024 in Streator, IL.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held at Defenbaugh Cemetery in Ancona, IL at 10:00 am, Saturday March 16th. Following services, a Celebration of Life luncheon will take place at the Fairbury American Legion from Noon to 3:00 pm. All are welcome.
Daren was born October 10, 1960 in Leesburg, Virginia the son of Joseph Raymond and Virginia Wells Greenwell. He married Ann McGuire on March 27, 1987 in Pontiac, IL. She survives in Fairbury.
Other survivors include a daughter, Gena (Christopher) Lubbers, Monticello, IL; two step sons, Vaughn Donahue, Streator, and Jonathan (Stephanie) Donahue, Bloomington; his parents, Joseph Raymond and Virginia Greenwell, Fairbury; five grandchildren, Olivia Lubbers, Everett Buffington, Carson Lubbers, Roma Buffington, and Emma Donahue; and one brother, Loran Greenwell, Monticello, IN.
Daren was a 1978 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School. He served in the United States Army (1978-1985) and 2 additional years in the Active Army Reserves. He retired from Mediacom in 2014 having worked as a lineman.
Daren was a member of the John Joda American Legion Post 54, Fairbury serving as the Vice Commander. Daren had a great passion for Veterans rights and was an advocate for all military personnel. The family suggests memorials be directed to The Fairbury American Legion or Echo’s Museum, Fairbury.
