Obituary: Coyne





Wanda Ann Coyne, 85, Fairbury, passed away peacefully at 12:41 am on Thursday, June 29th, 2023 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a private inurnment will take place at a later date. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dominy Memorial Library, Forrest Food Pantry, or Fairview Haven Retirement Community.

Wanda was born in Cullom on August 12, 1937 the daughter of Clarence and Marie (Birkenbeil) Coyne. She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Clarene Cronic, and one brother-in-law, Don Custer.

Wanda is survived by: her sister, Elizabeth Custer, of Forrest; brother, Ronald (Joyce Marshall) Coyne, of Princeton; and brother-in-law, Edward Cronic, of Bloomington. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews: Cindy Hahn, Chris Coyne, Craig Coyne, Tammy Custer, Kimberly Brucker, and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Wanda was a lifelong educator who earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education in 1963 and her Master’s Degree in Supervision in 1967, both from Illinois State University. She worked for eight years at Saunemin Grade School as a teacher, thirteen years at Odell Grade School as a teacher and principal, and fourteen years at Owego Grade School first as a teacher and ultimately retired as superintendent.

Wanda had a passion for teaching and shaping young minds. She loved the students she taught throughout her many years and had fond memories and stories of that time in her life. She enjoyed running into previous students and learning about the direction their lives had taken.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to OSF Hospice and Fairview Haven for their years of love and care.
