J.T. Cox, 77, Fairbury, died at 2:34 am Monday, October 6, 2025 at St. John Medical Center, Springfield.
His memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at the 1st. Presbyterian Church, Fairbury with Pastor Alan Willadson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 10:00 to 10:45 am Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Central Illinois Down Syndrome Organization or the Illinois Special Olympics.
J.T. was born February 9, 1948 in Pontiac, IL the son of Maurice F. and Dorothy Louise Loghry Cox. He married Doris Arline Bushman on February 28, 1970 in Fairbury, IL. She survives in Gibson City, IL.
Other survivors include two sons, Justin (Kim) Cox, Bloomington, IL, Jarrett (Mindy) Cox, Leroy, IL, four grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Jaci, Haley, Gunner, and Jordan Cox, one brother, Warren (Kay) Cox, Normal, IL and one sister, Judith (David) Gray, Mahomet, IL.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
J.T. was a 1966 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School, he earned his Associates Degree from Winston Churchill Community College, Pontiac and on February 27, 1970 he graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy, Springfield.
J.T. was an Illinois State Police Officer for 30 years retiring as a Special Agent Detective.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
J.T.’s greatest joy in life was watching his grandchildren play sports and being a part of all their activities.
