Obituary: Bellot

On Wednesday, November 13, 2024 John Vernon Bellot passed away at 1:19pm.

John was born on March 22, 1940 in rural Fairbury.  He was a 1958 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School.  He was a 1968 graduate of St. Louis College of Pharmacy and he was proud to have been president of his class.  He married the love of his life Ella Bricker in 1961 and they were happily married for 63 years.  They had 3 sons, John Jr. (deceased), Robert (Amy), and Dan.

John was a Registered Pharmacist for 54 years in Fairbury.  He and Ella owned Bellot’s Pharmacy and Hallmark in Fairbury which also had an old-fashioned soda fountain/ice cream parlor.

Through the years John had several hobbies.  He was a life long singer and guitar and fiddle player, and he loved horses including buggy and sleigh riding, and for years they hauled Santa in the Fairbury Christmas parade in an antique sleigh with casters on the runners.

In 1989 John and Ella purchased 17.5 acres of timber in the rural area between Fairbury and Saunemin.  They cleared 3 or 4 acres of timber and dug a pond.  Then they built a home on the pond.  They planted an orchard and developed several gardens and this became their home and hobby. John served on the Fairbury-Cropsey School Board, Fairbury Hospital board, Bluestem Bank board of directors and the Fairbury Chamber of Commerce.  He was proud to be part of the community of Fairbury.  John was always happy and loved all his hobbies.  Most of all he was a wonderful husband and father.

Visitation will 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to the Bellot Family Trust for his children or Futures Unlimited, Pontiac.
