Obituary: Barnes




Dale L. Barnes, 77, Bloomington and formerly of Fairbury, died at 8:57 am Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at his residence in Bloomington.


A private graveside service will be held Saturday, July 3, 2021 at South Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. The family suggests memorials be given to Traditions Hospice, Peoria.

Mr. Barnes was born June 1, 1944 in Bloomington, IL the son of T. Floyd and Geneva Breeze Barnes. He married Joyce Thomas on March 4, 1967 in Fairbury. She survives in Bloomington.


Other survivors include two children, Christy Barnes, St. Louis, MO and Jason (Jessica) Barnes, Bloomington, three grandchildren, and two brothers, Lester Barnes, Chenoa and Ronald (Pat) Barnes, St. Petersburg, FL.


He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.


Mr. Barnes served in the US Army during the Vietnam war receiving the Bronze Star Medal. He worked as a mason for Stoller and Maurer Construction, Fairbury and joined the Illinois State Police in 1970 and worked as a state trooper for 23 ½ years in Districts #6 and #21. Mr. Barnes retired from the Illinois State Police as a Master Sergeant. He also farmed for many years.


Mr. Barnes enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the American Legion Post #234, VFW Post #9789 and the Fraternal Order of Police #41.
