Obituary: Aberle

David Lloyd Aberle, affectionately known as "Egghead," passed away on September 7, 2024, in Peoria, Illinois, at the age of 67.

Born on March 17, 1957, in Fairbury, Illinois, to Lloyd and Carol Martin Aberle. David grew into a creative, proud, and helpful man, cherished by all who knew him.

David dedicated over 29 years to the Illinois Department of Transportation, working in road maintenance in Forrest and Pontiac, Illinois, until his retirement in 2007. His work not only demonstrated his commitment to public service but also his pride in contributing to the state's infrastructure.

Beyond his professional life, David was deeply passionate about his personal interests. He cherished vacationing with his beloved wife, Carol, visiting various wineries and breweries, and attending St. Louis Cardinals games. A longtime hobbyist, he built and maintained an elaborate train set, delighting in running it for his grandchildren and friends. An avid music lover, David enjoyed listening to vinyl records in the basement surrounded by family and friends, often while savoring a fine bourbon or whiskey.

David was a family man, survived by his lovely and very patient family: Father, Lloyd Aberle; sister, Julie Aberle Timmons(Greg Timmons); brothers, Kent Aberle (Kiva Boswick) and Brian Aberle (Audrey Aberle); children, Corrie Nichols (Jeff Nichols), Michael Aberle (Amber Aberle), Rhiannon Aberle Gerdes (Ronald Gerdes), and Megan Krowlek; grandchildren, Jacob Nichols (Olivia Lee), Jessica Nichols (Ryan Scott), Zachary Gerdes (Lauren Gerdes), MacKenzie Gerdes (Connor Shine), Connor Aberle, Rheagann Aberle, Holden Gerdes, Cheyenne Gilliam, and Friedrich Krowlek; and great-grandchild, Braeton Gerdes.

David was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Carol Wuebbens Aberle, his mother Carol Martin Aberle, and his in-laws, Edward and Loretta (Folkerts) Wuebbens.

In accordance with his wishes, David was cremated, and a private family service will be held. A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date. For him and Carol Wuebbens Aberle.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's memory may be made to Richard Owen's Hospice House, supporting the compassionate care that reflects David’s lifelong helpfulness and concern for others.
