Obituaries: Iler, Majors


Charles Laverne “Slim” Iler, 85, of Fairbury, passed away at 9:38am, Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at his home with his loved ones present.

A private family graveside service will be held at Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury

Charles was born October 12, 1934, in Cromwell, KY, the son of Cecil and Floren Rafferty Iler.

He married Rosemary Emberton on August 21, 1954, in Robertson County, TN. She passed away on January 27, 2014.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda (Robert) Mack of Fairbury, Jan Ziegenhorn of Champaign, and Lori (Brad) Maley of Fairbury; five grandchildren, Jarad (Jody) Mack of Spring Hill, TN, Jaime (Nick) Myers of Cortland, Brandon Ziegenhorn of Winter Park, FL, Jeff (Kelli) Maley of Fairbury, and Amanda (Kyle) Todd of Fairbury.

Charles was known as “Papa Slim” to eight great-grandchildren, Kailee, Hayden, Kendall, Ella, Austin, Tinley, Kayden and Emma. Also surviving is a special friend, Lori Keller of Bloomington; two brothers, Glen (Pauline) Iler of Bloomington, Jerry (Karen) Iler of Woodstock, GA; three sisters-in-laws, Wilma Jean (Donald) Beecher of Bloomington, Kathy Harper of Stoughton, WI, and Lois Emberton of Forrest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Carroll Iler; one sister, Mary Ann Small; and one son-in-law, Ross Ziegenhorn.

Charles drove for Nussbaum Trucking, retiring in 1997. He loved country music, jam sessions and traveling. He was a member of The Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and Eagles Lodge of Bloomington.

Charles never met a stranger and loved to just start up a conversation with anyone.

The family suggest memorials be made to SELCAS, American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

Majors infants:


Kaeslyn Marie and Paesyn Irene Majors, infant twin daughters of Robert Majors and Cassandra Curry are now angels in heaven.

Kaeslyn was born May 20, 2020 and passed away on May 22, 2020 and Paesyn was born May 20, 2020 and passed away May 23, 2020.

Surviving are their parents, Robert and Cassandra of Pontiac; sister, Karlee Majors of Bloomington; maternal grandmother, Tricia Steffen of Forrest; maternal grandfather, Craig Curry, Jr of Sullivan Lake, IN; paternal grandmother, Deneen Vernia of Pontiac; paternal grandfather, Robert Majors of Branson, MO; maternal great-grandparents, Henry and Lola Steffen of Fairbury and Emma Thacker of Forrest.

Services are being held with burial in South Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

The family asks that memorials be made to Kaeslyn and Paesyn Majors Memorial Fund, C/O Tami Bahler, Bank of Pontiac, Fairbury.
