A pursuit in Fairbury over the weekend resulted in a man eventually turning himself into police.
The Fairbury Police Department responded to the Circle K gas station for an unknown problem late Saturday night. The responding officer noticed a vehicle with windshield damage and fresh blood. An initial investigation revealed a man broke the windshield out of the vehicle and injured himself.
Fairbury Chief of Police Robert McCormick said in a news release that the man took off running when information was being gathered about the incident. The officer ordered the subject to stop several times, according to McCormick, before using a taser on the subject.
“The male subject after initially falling to the ground was able to remove the taser prongs and again took off running,” McCormick explained. “The officer again deployed his taser and again the subject was able to remove the prongs and continued running.”
Police were unable to initially locate the man who later turned himself in to Pontiac Police. Residents of the Metz Subdivision on the west end of town reported a heavy police presence late Saturday with numerous squad cars and authorities seen searching a nearby soybean field.
Departments assisting Fairbury Police came from Chatsworth, Chenoa, Colfax, Pontiac and Livingston County along with the Livingston County Sheriff K-9 Unit. Fairbury Fire also helped at the scene.
