The Prairie Central High School Military Club is sponsoring a Military and Veteran Appreciation Night on Friday, September 13 at the home football game.
The varsity football team will be taking on Tolono Unity HS that night. At the game, veterans and active duty military members will receive free admission with proof of service or a military or veteran id as well as a free t-shirt. There will be an area for the guests of honor to sit and watch the game as well as games for adults and kids provided by local service recruiting offices.
In conjunction with the event, the Military Club is hosting a collection drive for items to send to troops. The club is working with Support our Troops - America and all items collected will be a part of the Holiday Packages the troops will receive. Community members can drop off items at any of the local drop-off locations: First State Bank of Forrest (Forrest Location), First Baptist Church of Fairbury, Petersen Chevrolet, Chenoa Pharmacy and Chenoa Fitness Center or at the football game on the 13.
Anyone donating at least $10 worth of items at the football game/Appreciation Night event, will receive an event t-shirt in exchange for their donation. The collection drive will run from Tuesday, Sept. 3 - Friday Sept. 13.
The military club was formed last year under the direction of Computer and Business Teacher, LeeAnn Radtke. Ms. Radtke is a veteran of the United States Air Force and served as a Signals Intelligence Analyst before 9/11.
"I am very passionate about supporting current and former service members. Serving is an honor and often times we take for granted all that is done for us by these men and women," she said.
The goal of the Military Club is to promote leadership, teamwork, social skills, community activities, physical training, and military knowledge to the students at Prairie Central High School.
The clubs objectives are to educate club members about the US Military and the importance of patriotism, to help PCHS students head start in attempts to join the U.S Military if they so desire and to give back to our current and former service members
