Hawks lose nail-biter

Prairie Central players defend Pontiac Tuesday night during the rivalry game at PTHS.

The Prairie Central boys basketball team put up a good fight against Pontiac Tuesday night but it wasn’t enough as the Indians defeated the Hawks by a score of 67-63 in the Livingston County rivalry game at Pontiac.

Leading scorers for the Hawks were Logan Goad with 18, Rylie Vaughan had 17 and Trey Bazzell chipped in 16. Significant contributors for Pontiac were Gschwendtner, Dawson, Cramer and Weir.

Our roaming reporter for the evening, Darcy Rigsby, caught up with PC head coach Darin Bazzell prior to the game and he admitted it was a big matchup for both teams. During the pre-game interview, Bazzell said the team had some good practices prior to this and was doing good things.

“I’m always anxious,” said Bazzell. “This whole day is like the longest day of the week.”

“A lot of guys stepped up and made some shots. Wow.” Pontiac head coach Tom Garriott said afterward.

The game was carried live on the Central Illinois Farm Network as the CIFN Sports Central Game of the Week with Mark Myre and Tim Scott on the call.
