FFD, SELCAS help Pontiac




A fire damaged Bernie's Automotive is shown Thursday morning in Pontiac.

Fairbury firefighters and SELCAS ambulance personnel were among the agencies assisting with the fire at Bernie’s Automotive in Pontiac Wednesday evening.


The Pontiac Fire Department was dispatched to the repair center at 501 S. Ladd Street and upon arrival, noticed the building and multiple nearby vehicles on fire. Pontiac’s department received help through the mutual box alarm system by Chenoa, Cornell, Cullom, Dwight, Fairbury, Flanagan, Gridley, Odell and Saunemin.


Other assistance came from Com-Ed, Duffy Ambulance, Illinois American Water, Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, NICOR, Pontiac Police, Pontiac Streets Department and SELCAS. Local businesses and volunteers provided water and food for first responders on the scene.


The fire is under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal with assistance from the Pontiac Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit.


According to a press release from the Pontiac Fire Department, one person was taken to St. James Medical Center and there were no injuries to first responders.
