Sue Everett from the Gibson City Rotary talks to the Fairbury Rotary Club Tuesday afternoon at Dominy Library.

The treasurer for Gibson City’s Rotary Club shared some fundraising ideas with Fairbury Rotarians Tuesday afternoon.

Sue Everett has been involved with the Gibson City club for a number of years and is retired from the Bank of Gibson City. Her husband is a retired school teacher and administrator and she has served as treasurer since 2001.

“We do a lot of projects,” Everett explained.

Most of the work entails helping organizations, schools and the library in town. Gibson City has a Rotary ball each year as a fundraiser. They also have a calendar fundraiser which entails preparations, distribution to members for sales and monitoring prize winners throughout the year.

“The first year, we collected pictures of our community,” said Everett. “They were also different seasons.”

The Rotary contacts various businesses who want to sponsor the calendar and donate a prize. A spreadsheet listing all of the sponsors the prizes is placed on the back of the calendar.

“We ask all of our members to sell a certain number of calendars,” Everett added.

Much of this is advertised on social media such as Facebook but is also mentioned in the local newspaper and on the radio. Funds raised are used toward international projects as the Gibson City club has teamed with the Pontiac club on these efforts.
