Family is everything. In fact, it is a big part of what makes up the Livingston County Agricultural Fair in Pontiac.
The Kratochvil and Harms families from Fairbury enjoy spending time together each summer showing livestock and entering projects at the event. Ashlyn, Ainsley and Acer Kratochvil all show cows and pigs and participate in other activities such as visual arts, leadership and photography.
“I love being at the fair because I get to spend time with my family in the barn and get to help the little kids pet the cows and see a different type of farming,” said Ashlyn.
Ainsley’s favorite part is sitting in the barn after shows hanging out with family while Acer really enjoys showing.
“I just mostly like showing them because it feels good when you win,” Acer admits.
Ty Harms likes showing cows and letting other kids pet them since they may not always have the chance to see livestock up close. Ty’s brother, Parker, looks forward to talking and laughing with friends and family during the fair.
All of the kids had a good first day at the fair. Ashlyn was pleased with her first place finish and a few thirds. Ainsley got a first, two thirds, two fourths and had the reserve senior champion Holstein. Acer got a first, second and fourth while Ty had a couple of firsts and a second. Parker said he didn’t go in expecting a lot but got thirds and fourths.
The 2019 Livingston County Agricultural Fair runs through Saturday at 4-H Park near Pontiac with livestock shows, judging and nightly entertainment.
