Emotional return home for PC

The Hawks had a successful home opener as they played at PCHS on the new court for the first time Tuesday evening.

Prairie Central defeated Dwight 89-36, in a nice bounce back from Saturday’s loss to Lexington in the GCMS Thanksgiving Tourney final. Leading scorers included Levi Goad and Tyler Curl with 17 each and Gage Steidinger and Talen Steidinger each contributing 11.

Gavin Tredennick and Goad each had 4 assists, while Curl had 6 rebounds and Gage Steidinger with 5 rebounds. Curl also had 4 steals in the win. The varsity Hawks are 4-1 on the season.

It was an emotional return to the court for players, coaches and fans as there was a special “white out” theme with Hawks Forever shirts filling the bleachers in honor of Drew Fehr and Dylan Bazzell. This was the first time for many to see the court decals honoring the boys.

Coach Trevin McCulloh considered it a memorable night.

“Having Coach Bazzell here and Lynette, it was special,” noted McCulloh. “To see all of these DB DF shirts is pretty special.”

McCulloh credits the team’s success Tuesday to sharing the ball and moving it more. He noted the team struggled offensively against Lexington last week by not sharing the ball.

“In my opinion, our defense set the tone. It took away the stuff they wanted to do.”

Prairie Central is home once again this Thursday night against Tri-Valley. We will have the action on Fairbury News with Marc Strauss on the play-by-play.

The PC JV team also won Tuesday evening, 67-35, moving to 3-1.
