Superintendent Brett Ashburn reported to the Fairbury City Council last week that bids are being sent out to resurface Locust Street.
Locust Street will be resurfaced from First to Fifth Street later this summer. Brett also said some new umbrellas and chairs have been purchased for the swimming pool.
Superintendent Ashburn also revealed that the two new basketball courts have now been completed and are in use. A dedication ceremony will be scheduled in the near future.
All of the homes on North Jackson Street have been connected to the Fairbury sewer system except the home of Bryan & Megan Fehr at 706 North Jackson. The City Council voted to approve their request to connect their home to the city sewer system.
Alderman James Tipton brought up the topic of the City of Fairbury forcing homeowners to cut their grass and clean up their yards. He pointed out most homeowners do an excellent job of maintaining their homes, but there are a handful of eyesores around town.
Alderman Tipton asked why the City cannot send letters to homeowners with clutter in their yards, similar to how letters are sent regarding mowing tall grass. Mayor Slagel suggested any citizens concerned about a house with excessive clutter contact City Hall and appropriate action will be taken.
The City Council approved replacing Jim Munz with Janelle Stoller on the Library Board. The Council also approved an additional three-year term for Kathy Popejoy and John Tollensdorf on the Library Board.
A request to purchase a better used manlift for the Streets Department was approved. The current manlift is not functional, and the repair cost is excessive.
