Fairbury’s City Hall is closed to foot traffic in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Mayor David Slagel tells Fairbury News the building will still be open and functioning as normal with a payment drop slot. Also, water bills can be paid online. The normal business hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“Everybody is going to be working still,” Slagel said Wednesday evening. “We are just saying we don’t really want people walking in.”
Certain exceptions could be made to letting people in, according to the mayor.
The police department can be reached during City Hall hours at 815-692-3347 and city staff can be reached at 815-692-2743 or via e-mail. A list of e-mails can be found at www.cityoffairbury.com. Water service is expected to continue uninterrupted and trash will be picked up on regular route days.
The city did add tables to the normal layout for Wednesday’s City Council meeting with an empty seat between council members. Seats were also placed sporadically around the rest of the room so those attending maintained a safe distance from each other.
