Spring has officially sprung west of Fairbury with this week’s reopening of Cascade Gardens.
The garden center opened for the season on Monday with a greenhouse full of bedding plants, hanging baskets, planters, herbs and vegetables. They are featuring new colors of petunias this year. Also, onion plants and tropicals have arrived.
“There are a few new things but a lot of the same favorites too,” said Cascade Gardens owner JoEllen Gehring.
Preparations for spring begin long before opening day at the family-owned business located along U.S. Highway 24. They plant the first seeds in January with hanging baskets going in around Valentine’s Day. Gehring continues to plant vegetables for the season.
“We are really excited to see people again,” Gehring added.
Cascade Gardens is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed Sundays. The business has a Facebook page and can be reached at 815-692-4897 or via e-mail at gehring@frontier.com.
