A new board member will be appointed by the Prairie Central Board of Education after the group accepted the resignation of vice president Tim McGreal during a special meeting Tuesday evening in Fairbury.
The appointee will serve until a new board is seated after the upcoming April 2025 election.
Applications are being accepted to fill McGreal’s vacancy and interested candidates must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18, a resident of Illinois and the district for at least a year immediately preceding the appointment, a registered voter, not be a child sex offender, not hold another incompatible public office, not have a prohibited interest in any contract with the district, not hold certain types of prohibited state or federal employment and be willing to promptly complete state-mandated training after installation.
“Applicants should show familiarity with the board’s policies regarding general duties and responsibilities of the board and a board member including fiduciary responsibilities, conflict of interest, ethics and gift ban,” said a letter released by the district.

Applications will be received until Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. and top candidates will be interviewed starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. The board is expected to make a selection following interviews and the candidate will be appointed immediately following that selection.
