Aberles surprised downtown

Lloyd and Carol Aberle received a golf cart from family for their 66th anniversary.

Lloyd and Carol Aberle received quite the surprise on Locust Street over the weekend during the Midwest Real Street Machines cruise-in.

The Fairbury couple received a golf cart from family members in honor of their 66th wedding anniversary which is coming August 7.

“I feel like a young man,” admitted Lloyd.

The Aberles were riding on the back of the golf cart only to learn that it was actually theirs during a brief presentation before the crowd. Lloyd said he had been wishing for a golf cart but didn’t have a spot to put it.

“We’ve got a patio where we are going to park it now.”

Last weekend was the only time the Aberles could get all of the family home to celebrate the occasion so they had a pizza party at their condo before holding a larger gathering at the Weber Building.

“We did not know anything about (the golf cart),” said Carol.

The two were married August 7, 1955 at the Methodist Church in Chatsworth. He retired from Nussbaum Trucking and she retired from the cafeteria department in the Prairie Central school district. Both are longtime supporters of Prairie Central activities and can be seen at many Hawks sporting events during the year.

“It’s been 66 years but he’s been chasing me for 67,” Carol added.
