Teens learn leadership skills

Livingston County teenagers gained leadership and entrepreneurial skills during a recent month long summer class which was offered for four hours, four days a week.

The Building Future Leaders Program had 13 graduates, ending in early July with a special graduation ceremony and presentations based on the Shark Tank program where students revealed business ideas. Each participant was presented with a Certificate of Achievement.

The program was led by Lesley King, a John C. Maxwell certified business coach and speaker. Students learned different aspects of leadership each week and visited with community leaders and business owners. In addition to volunteering on local projects, students independently interviewed leaders.

Grant funding was provided by the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation and Enbridge while the event was co-sponsored by The Boys and Girls Club of Livingston County and Community Connection Group of Central Illinois.
