A planned unit development on the former hospital property was approved by members of the Fairbury City Council during their first regular July meeting.

Retirement villas are planned for the area developed by Mike White. The council approved the development pending another Zoning Board hearing to approve the zero lot lines, or shared wall in each building, which was missed in the original zoning hearing.

“We are waiving fees for the next hearing as it should’ve been discussed at the first meeting,” Mayor David Slagel said.

Also at the recent meeting, annual membership dues were approved by the council for the Greater Livingston County Economic Development Council for $7,916. The GLCEDC is comprised of around 75 members who collectively employ over 5,000 employees within the county. New directors were added to the group’s executive board and board of directors.

Efforts of GLCEDC include retaining and expanding local businesses, implementing workforce preparedness initiatives, assisting businesses with stimulus programs and working to enhance educational opportunities in schools.

In another matter, repairs were approved for a truck and its pump for around $9,075.

A quote for lighting replacement at City Hall failed due to the lack of a motion from the council. This proposal included replacement of two eight-inch wall fixtures in the lobby area with new LED fixtures, replacement of an emergency light in the lobby and repair/replace a fire alarm strobe light in the meeting room for a total of $5,482.92.
