Obituary: Johnston





Darol Hillern “Skip” Johnston, Jr., 79, of Fairbury, passed away at his home on February 18, 2024.  

 

He was born on July 24, 1944 to Dr. Darol Hillern (Sr.) and Jean Marie (Bocher) Johnston in Williamsburg, VA.  He is survived by two brothers, Randolph M. Johnston, Chicago, and Steven E. Johnston, Peoria, and two sisters, Michelle A. ”Mickey” (Dennis) Hallstein, Minier, and Janine M. Johnston, Lakeland, FL.  He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Jack Holderer, and one sister-in-law, Debra Johnston. 

 

Skip graduated from Fairbury-Cropsey High School in 1962.  He attended Southern Illinois University and Illinois State University.  He was a veteran of the US Navy.  He was employed over the years by several area businesses, retiring from Fairbury Tarp & Repair, Inc. 

 

He loved fishing, and was a fan of the Chicago White Sox, the Chicago Bears, and the Fighting Illini. Over the last few years, he greatly enjoyed discovering and listening to new singers and watching several farming channels on YouTube.  

 

Cremation rites have been accorded.  There will be a private family service at a later date. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
