Obituary: Herrli




Robert “Bob” W. Herrli, 79, of Fort Myers, FL and formerly of Fairbury, IL; passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022 in Iowa surrounded by family.


Bob was born on October 23, 1942, in Monroe, WI; the son of Ernest and Thora (Davis) Herrli. Bob proudly served as a stateside military police officer during the Vietnam War. He worked for 40 years at Dave’s Supermarket in Fairbury, IL in the produce department. Bob also took pride in owning and operating his own business - Bob's Small Engine Repair in Fairbury, IL - where he repaired many lawn mowers in the Fairbury area.


Bob married Marilyn (Ackerman) Herrli on June 4, 1994 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairbury, IL. Bob enjoyed spending winters in Florida and relocated to Fort Myers, FL in 2015. For Bob, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the love of his life and he was very proud of them. He enjoyed spending time outside in the sunshine and fresh air, and watching his grandchildren and great-grand children grow up.


Bob is survived by his sister Barb Bielfeldt of Gibson City, IL; his loving wife Marilyn Herrli of Fort Myers, FL; three step-children: Shelle (Will) Roland of Moline, IL, Amy (Joel) Laible of Lexington, IL, and Rex (Tracy) Ackerman of Clarksville, IA; nine grandchildren: Jordan (Lorenzo) Roland, Natalie (Victor) Mickeal, Allison Roland, Tiffany (John) Ackerman, Taylor (Daniel) Kramer, Donavan (Stephanie) Laible, Devin Laible, Aden Laible, and Avery Laible; and nine great-grandchildren: Chase, Deja, Will, David, Maliyah, Elizabeth, William, Carly, and Gabe.


He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Thora (Davis) Herrli and one brother-in-law, Willard Bielfeldt.


Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm, Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury; with a private family graveside inurnment in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family of Robert “Bob” Herrli.


Visitation with the family will be 10 am, to 12:30 pm, prior to the funeral on Saturday also at the church in Fairbury. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
