Dolores J. Haberkorn, 91, Fairbury and formerly of Chatsworth, died at 1:00 am Monday, August 5, 2024 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.
Visitation will be 10:00 am to noon Saturday, August 10, 2024 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Chatsworth followed by her Funeral Mass will begin at noon. Monsignor Eric Powell will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Chatsworth. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is assisting with arrangements.
The family suggests memorials be given to Fairview Haven Retirement Community; Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church; Chatsworth Fire Department.
Dolores was born August 12, 1932 in rural Chatsworth, IL the daughter of Raymond C. and Norma L. Gillette Martin. She married Charles H. “Chub” Haberkorn on February 19, 1955 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Chatsworth. He preceded her in death on August 1, 2022.
Dolores graduated from Chatsworth High School in 1950. She worked one year at the local telephone office prior to entering Mennonite College of Nursing. She graduated from Mennonite College of Nursing in 1954. She took a post graduate course in Detroit, MI in 1959. She worked at Fairbury Hospital in Obstetrics and Helen Lewis Smith Pavilion in Fairbury Hospital. She attended the Institute of Physical Rehabilitation at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria in 1979.
Dolores also worked for Dr. Hugh McIntosh, Piper City and Dr. T.F. Mauger, Chatsworth, Fairbury Medical Associates and for a short time at the Pontiac Correctional Center. She also worked in the Physical Therapy Department of Humiston Haven, Pontiac for 8 ½ years and then 10 years at Livingston Manor, Pontiac a quality assurance nurse. She retired from Livingston Manor.
She was a member of the Illinois Nurse Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. A Mennonite Hospital alumni and Chatsworth High School alumni. A member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Chatsworth and H.O.P.E. and the Altar and Rosary Society.
Dolores also played the role of “Mrs. Santa” along with husband “Chub” for several years.
Dolores loved her family so much and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Jill (Robert) Dohman, Gibson City, Judy (Troy) Holmes, Gifford, six grandchildren, Brandon (Suzy) Dohman, Bradley (Chelsea) Dohman, Zachary (Raquel) Lawrence, Landon (Bryce) Lawrence, Chip Holmes and Cydney Holmes, eight great grandchildren, Carter Dohman, Matea Cunningham, Brinlee Lawrence, Raelynn Lawrence, Braxton Lawrence, Easton Dohman, Lainee Lawrence and Brooks Lawrence, one sister, Shirley (Erwin) Krumweide, Beardstown and one brother-in-law, Lloyd Aberle and one sister-in-law Luci Haberkorn.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Hubly and Carol Aberle.
The family of Dolores would like to thank the staff at Fairview Haven and Dr. Samuel Steffen for the loving care that was given to our mom.
