Obituary: Chavez

Ernestina “Ernie” Chavez, 74, Fairbury, died at 9:15 am Friday, August 22, 2025 at her residence, Fairbury.

Ernie was born October 1, 1950 in LaGrulla, TX the daughter of Ernesto and Romula Ibarra Solis.  She married Francisco “Frank” Chavez Jr. on August 8, 1971 in Kinsman, IL.  He preceded her in death on August 2, 2019.

Survivors include her children, Evanna Chavez, Fairbury, Sergio (Jodi Price) Chavez, Pontiac and Sesar (Christina) Chavez, Fairbury, one brother, Ernesto (Diann) Solis Jr., Coal City, IL, two sisters, Ida (Phil) Barghina, Myrtle Beach, SC, Noelia Longoria, LaGrulla, TX, seven grandchildren, Julian Trevino, Adrian Trevino, Shayne (Jeremy) Wheatley, Ethan Chavez, Piper Reeder, Caleb Chavez and Calynn Chavez, and six great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Ernie’s funeral will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with Fr. Scott Archer officiating. Burial will be in South Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with a Rosary service at 3:30pm.  The family suggest memorials be given to the Ernie Chavez Family.
