Prairie Central’s Music Department will present the spring musical production of Disney’s “Newsies the Musical” this weekend at the PC Center for the Performing Arts at Chenoa.
The curtain will rise at 7 p.m. for the evening performances March 12-14 then at 3 p.m. for the Sunday matinee performance on March 15. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.
“Newsies” is the tale of Jack Kelly, a newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged newspaper hawkers known as “newsies.” When distribution prices are raised at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what is right.
Familiar songs are featured, such as “Seize the Day,” Santa Fe” and “Carrying the Banner.” Jack is played by Collin Fogarty while Kirra Gehring is Katherine Plumber.
