The Prairie Central Marching Band had a successful performance at Saturday’s annual Pontiac Indian Showdown competition despite the heat.

Prairie Central took second place in Class B with first going to U-High and third El Paso-Gridley.

This was the first band competition of the season for the Marching Hawks.

Pontiac firefighters responded to a number of medical calls during the Pontiac Indian Showdown marching band competition where multiple minors participating from different schools required medical evaluation for heat-related concerns. Three individuals were taken to the hospital for further evaluation while 14 others were assessed and cleared without the need for transport.

“Fortunately, all patients are stable,” said a news release from the Pontiac Fire Department on Saturday evening.

SELCAS Ambulance and the Fairbury Fire Department were among the numerous local agencies who assisted in the efforts Saturday.
