Fairbury city officials have approved a resolution and land purchase agreement with the Prairie Central school district.
This is for the lot between the high school and sewer plant which covers over seven acres. Attorneys for the both the city and school came to an agreement on contract language.
“It has been looked over,” stated City Superintendent Brett Ashburn.
“We don’t necessarily have plans for it immediately,” Mayor David Slagel told Fairbury News. “We have talked about putting a park there.”
Slagel said they don’t want to “land lock” the sewer plant in case there is ever a need to expand.
Also during Wednesday’s regular meeting of the Fairbury City Council, the mayor thanked Street Superintendent Lonnie Rhoads and his department for doing a good job with recent snow removal. Alderman Jon Kinate agreed.
“Those streets were done very well,” noted Kinate.
Rhoads does not recall plowing snow in November during the past 25 years.
Alderman Kinate wants to see no parking signs on Timber Ridge as sledding has started on the big hill.
Council members also approved a holiday bonus for employees. This year’s total is close to last year with the same number of employees, according to City Treasurer Dale Diller. Bill Schmidgall approved the motion with a second from Jim Tipton.
Consent agenda items were approved, including Nov. 19 meeting minutes, voucher invoice register and overtime report.
