Members of the public have the chance to help prepare foods for those overseas in need of a nutritious meal.
Fairbury’s First United Methodist Church will “Leap into Service” this Saturday, Feb. 29 (Leap Day) by filling rice packs that the Midwest Mission Distribution Center will send to those in need. The filling will take place in the church Fellowship Hall Saturday with four lines set up to work at the same time. Each line of 10 people can fill about 125 packs in an hour, so they’ll need workers over three hours.
Lines will be working at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. Helpers can sign-up individually or can pledge to fill a line for one hour with friends and family. Anyone in first grade or older can help so it can be a family group, neighborhood friends, basketball team or any group of individuals wanting to help the hungry.
Other Methodist Churches in the area have been invited to help, as Fairbury needs a total of 120 hours volunteered.
If you’d like to help or for more information, contact the church at 815-692-2543.
